Make sure there is oil in the carb dampers. If you have a dwell meter they should be set at 60 degrees, if not. If you are getting gas and it is clean and it still won't start it probably is a problem in the ignition like bad points or closed up points. Disconnect the fuel line from the carbs and run some into a cup to clear the line and then try and start it. You might try draining the tank and starting with some new gas. I freed up the tubes and got them moving smoothly again, and she started right up after that.Įdited 1 time(s).
The jet tubes under the carbs were both gummed up solid with very old gas and could not move up & down in response to choke input. What is the next thing to check?ĮDIT: Solved. Tomorrow I will pull the fuel line off and check to ensure I'm getting fuel flow when the pump is activated. After getting it started with starting fluid for 5 seconds at a time I was able to get it to run for a minute at a time. When I try to start it will almost catch immediately, but then just turn over endlessly. Now it's home, won't start (had to push it off the trailer, etc) I drove it up onto the trailer and brought it home. I was expecting a dead car so any kind of running was great for me. The P/O had this car running outside his house when I arrived (family friend - otherwise that would be shady) and it ran ok-ish.
